I start today with some changes for the committee, but please keeping reading down, as there are some events now open for applications.
RECYCLING
Those is Scouting will know what I mean, and it has nothing to do with tin cans.
CHRIS SCHULTZE
After four years of being Club Chair, during which he led the way notably through the ‘Covid years’, and the renewal of the Centre Lease, Chris Schultze has stepped down.
Richard Hunt of Warspite had this to say at the AGM.
I would like to put on record my personal thanks, and I suspect that of everyone else, to Chris. Not only has he been an excellent Chair; he has steered SSWAC through the pandemic and did significant work around the complexities of the lease renewal. Above that, he has done it with good humour, earnestness and involving the widest possible team.
He thinks long term and invests his time and energy into supporting Scouting; often quietly laying the groundwork for others to be better able to deliver safe and fun activities.
I personally find him an excellent sounding board - and I suspect many others do to.
So Chris, massive thanks for all that you have done over your period as Chair, for what you did before and for all that you will do after.
Chris will remain to be involved, in advising on and interpreting the Permit Scheme, and will continue to assess applicants.
JOHN FARMER
John has taken on the role of Chair, having held that position previously. I believe we are in good hands.
DAVID HAYSOM
About six months ago, after ten years in position as club treasurer, David stepped down. He has now taken on the role of club administrator. Huge thanks go to David, who would readily agree that he would rather be on the water with the kids, and will continue to do so. Richard Hunt is thanked too, for temporarily holding the reins.
DAVID HUDDART
Another David has agreed to take over the well-worn accounts books. David is no stranger to the club, having brought his Scouts along to many an event and course, while providing opportunities in his District. Welcome David.
SAFETY TRAINING
Three dates for the Paddlesport Safety & Rescue Course have now been added to the programme, and the invites have been attached.
DISCOVER/EXPLORE COURSES
There remain a few places available on the June dates, and lots of places on the September course, so invites are attached.
TRIPS
There is one local Wey trip on the 25th June, suitable for those with the Discover award and above. Details attached.
SURREY SCOUTABOUT
29TH-30TH June 2024
With just over a year to go, Surrey Scoutabout is back, and we plan to offer kayaks, canoes and SUPs once more. I will be putting out a request for craft, kit, people on and the water and off. If you can commit now, let me know.
