Hello Firstname

Wednesday, 13 April
Next week we are joining forces with Gloucester, Kingswood and Cheltenham camera clubs in sponsoring a ‘tour’ for Jack Casement ARPS who is coming up from Kent. Jack is an incredibly creative photographer and an expert not only in Photoshop but in many other digital imaging fields. He plans the first part of the evening with us to be taken up with some inspiring creative Photoshop techniques, and the second half will be a really varied programme. As well as a demo of Ultra Fractal software, he will also cover Poser, Apophysis and Bryce Landscapes software. And, as he himself professes, no programme by Jack Casement would be complete without some skeletons. He says that his only concern will be to fit it all in! Visit Jack's website to get a taster of what he does.

Digital Imaging Group
The monthly DI Meeting is next Monday 11 April at 7.30pm. You do not have to be a member of the DI group to attend the meeting because all club members are invited. In the first half of the evening we will take a look at your images, which you may wish to present for others to admire or to invite comments. Please bring the images as prints or on a flash drive in jpg format. To make it easy to organise viewing the images it would help if the all images on your flash drive are in a folder of your name. If you enjoy chocolate biscuits they will be freely available in the coffee break but you will enjoy the second half even more.
The second half of the meeting will be an illustrated talk ‘Sharpen & Soften Techniques’ by Lee Spencer-Fleet in which Lee will explain some favourite Photoshop techniques to manipulate both personal and student digital images. (Lee’s aim, as always, is to engage with all DI Group members regardless of experience and preference for Photoshop, Elements or Lightroom).

Lee is an Adobe Certified Educator and also a member of the North Bristol Artists. Her website is at www.digitaldreamdesigns.uk

Bristol Salon
For those of you who missed the Bristol Salon presentation at the clubrooms, there will be another chance to see it on Sunday 24 April at 2.30pm. This is the public showing of the Salon and as you will be aware, seating is limited, so we are asking anyone who wishes to attend to reserve their (free) seat by following this link and filling in their names (and those of any friends, wives or partners they want to bring along). There will be a free raffle during the afternoon with prizes kindly donated by Calumet.

NIK Software Suite
Last week I mentioned that Google is "giving away" the Nik software suite. Several members have now sent me the following link to free tutorials on how to use Nik, please click here.

Thanks to Joanne Searle, Mike Bigger and Steve Newman for this.

Copyright
The British Copyright Council (BCC), of which the RPS is a member, has launched a single-page basic guide to copyright in the UK, known as the Copyright 'Highway' Code (CHC). The idea is that this will give anyone producing or using a creative work, such as a photograph, the same kind of guide that the motoring Highway Code does when you drive a car.
The CHC project has been developed by a copyright awareness and education group within the BCC. A first draft was written by Andy Finney from the RPS (who acted as editor) and Denise Swanson of the BIPP. Even though the code is simple and easy to understand, this still required discussion and learned legal input. Sometimes, as you can imagine, even individual words were argued over. The first edition has been agreed by representatives from all parts of the creative industries.
The code takes the form of a single side of A5, which can be downloaded from the BCC's web site - follow this link.

Thanks to Mike Bigger for this

We All Get Older!
An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.
The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great..., I would recommend it very highly.'
The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?'
The first man thought and thought and finally said,
'What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know... The one that's red and has thorns.'
'Do you mean a rose?'
'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'

These "We all get older" contributions are courtesy of Keith Wood and were sent in while his nurse wasn't looking!

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Sue O'Connell has just returned from a trip to Oman where she collected a GPU Silver Medal for her image - Hair Care Day at the Nunnery. That trip to the barbers is certainly doing well for Sue.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
