Hello, Firstname

Wednesday 13 January

Next week's speaker is Peter Milsom EFIAP/gold DPAGB BPE4* who will be presenting his talk called The Power of Sport
Peter took up photography seriously in 2006 following 18 years of competitive athletics and coaching. His first efforts were directed at the sports events he was familiar with, and he gradually extended these to other sports including canoe slalom, Jetski racing and various para sports.
Peter is on personal terms with many of the athletes, and provides photographs to help them improve their technique. His aim is to capture those special moments during the highs and lows of sport and the efforts and emotions shown in achieving a world class performance.
He is often granted media accreditation to major events which allows him to capture images of world class athletes from the best vantage points.

To see some of Peter's images, please visit his website here.

The talk starts at 19:30hrs but will be open from 19:15hrs.

Happy New Year to All.

At the next DI meeting on Monday 11 January we will have an AV presentation by a long standing member of BPS Mike Salter, FRPS, EFIAP. It is ‘Captured in My Camera‘ comprising a selection of beautifully composed figure studies in monochrome. Mike’s techniques of using lighting and artistic composition in his images has won him many awards including a gold medal in the prestigious IFS European print panel exhibition and were also the basis of his successful FRPS panel. Mike’s presentation is about 8 minutes long and so there is plenty of time still available for anyone who would like to show off their work or invite comments on their work and look forward to seeing your images.

Please send your images to me by Sunday 10 January, 6 pm.  Images: JPG format, sRGB, 1600 x 1200 pixels (same as competitions but not strict), prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. if you wish to show them in that order. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email.

Look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Masters of Print Competition
Last year the club won the Hahnemuhle Gold Club award for the Club with the highest number of acceptances from members including several awards.  We have set a standard that other clubs will try to beat so it is time to raise the standard.

We will, again, organise a club entry, so it is time to dust off the printers we had nearly forgotten about, make sure the heads are clean and feed in our best paper to take our superb images.
We had a great entry last year, but we can do better.  It does not matter if you are a "salonist", we have some fantastic photographers in the club and we want your images, club, intermediate or advanced.

We will manage the entry on your behalf, all we need are  a max of 5 prints per person, any size paper up to A3, Colour, Mono and Nature.  You can mix your entry between the 3 classes.

Initially, please email Steve Field at progsec@bristolphoto.org.uk letting him know that you would like to take part, Steve will coordinate our entry as last year.

Full details here  http://www.thepagb.org.uk/competitions/pagb-masters-of-print/, note the limits on age of the image.

Fill Steve's email with requests to enter - please!

Talk “The Eloquent Landscape”
The title indicates that I’ll be talking about my pictures, but in addition I like to think that my images ‘talk’, or communicate with the viewer.  Emphasising my own philosophy of getting an image right when I shoot it, I’ll discuss camera craft, the importance of light, and the way I photograph when out on location - I will be relating the actual taking experiences.  Although predominantly landscape, I will also include urban, and monochrome photography, mostly captured in the UK and Ireland, although not entirely.
I take pictures for me, (not any judge), and to satisfy my own creative desires, increasingly shooting thematically in sets of images, rather than gathering individual competition images.
Chris’s Background
Chris confesses to being a “photo-holic”, embracing all aspects of photography, but regards himself primarily as a pictorialist, and loves working in the landscape.  He particularly enjoys the thrill of discovery out on location, whether in the countryside, on a beach, in a town, or city. A busy national PAGB judge and popular lecturer, Chris has visited many different Camera Clubs, and judged regional, national and international exhibitions.  He is a Fellow of the RPS and serves on the Visual Art Panel as Deputy Chair, and also provides advice at RPS distinction advisory days.
He holds a Distinction of the PAGB and has received an APAGB award for his services to photography.  Chris has had success and gained awards in international exhibitions when working for his AFIAP & subsequent EFIAP qualifications. Chris is a member of Amersham Photographic Society, and is delighted to be a member of the prestigious London Salon.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Make Money For BPS Every Time You Shop On Amazon!
Now we're all in Tier 3 lockdown again, the thought of on-line shopping must be looming large in many members' minds. It's worth remembering that if you so wish, each and every one of you can support BPS with every purchase you make on Amazon by using Amazon Smile. Click on the link below – then it’s self-explanatory.
Shopping using Smile is no different to your normal Amazon shopping and costs you nothing, it's just that you need to tell it that you wish to use Smile and then we get some pennies!

For Sale
I have received the following from Neil Porter. If you are interested, please contact Neil directly at neil@cabotstudios.com

Two or three years ago I bought an Epson P600 printer fitted with the Fotospeed ink flow system, and it has served me well. Recently however the ink system has been faulty, and despite cleaning, and recharging is still not working properly. The people at Fotospeed think that the nozzles need replacing, although, what with the pandemic they haven’t had a chance to look at it.

It would be difficult and probably expensive to get it repaired at the moment, so I decided to leave everything as it is, and to buy a new printer, which I have done.

I have therefore got an A3+ printer to dispose of. I also have quite lot of Fotospeed  refill inks. I also have the original Epson ink carriage, and inks.

Neil would be looking for somewhere in the order of £100, as a donation to St Peters Hospice.

If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).
